Lemon law
Lemon law is Singapore consumer protection that gives buyers of defective goods, including used cars from dealers, a right to repair, replacement, or a refund.
What it means
Lemon law is the popular name for the consumer protection provisions in Singapore's Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act that cover goods which do not conform to the contract or are not of satisfactory quality at the time of delivery. It applies to goods bought from a business, and used cars bought from a dealer fall within its scope. If a defect that existed at the point of sale shows up, the law gives the buyer a ladder of remedies: first the right to ask the seller to repair or replace the defective item within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience, and if that is not possible or not done, the right to a price reduction or to return the item for a refund. There is a defined window after delivery during which a fault that appears is presumed to have been present at the time of sale, which shifts the burden onto the seller. Lemon law does not cover normal wear and tear, faults the buyer was told about before buying, or sales between two private individuals.
Why it matters in Singapore
Used cars are a major purchase, and lemon law gives buyers from dealers a clear path to recourse when a car turns out to be faulty rather than leaving them to argue from scratch. It shapes how dealers describe and warrant their cars, and it gives buyers leverage to insist on a proper repair instead of being brushed off. The key boundary to understand is who you bought from: the protection applies to dealer sales, not to a private direct owner sale, which is one reason the route of purchase matters as much as the car itself.
How Revol Carz handles this
Revol Carz is a workshop and bodywork specialist, not a legal advisor, and we do not run lemon law claims. What we do is the practical side. If you have bought a used car and a defect needs putting right, our workshop can inspect the car, document the condition, and carry out the mechanical or panel and paint repair needed. An honest, detailed inspection report can also help you understand whether a fault is a genuine defect or expected wear before you raise it with the dealer. Message us on WhatsApp and we will talk through how Revol Carz can inspect and repair the car.
