Singapore car ownership

Season parking

Season parking is a prepaid monthly parking arrangement at HDB, URA, and private carparks in Singapore, an alternative to paying per entry.

What it means

Season parking lets an owner pay a fixed monthly fee for the right to park in a designated carpark, instead of paying short-term charges each time the vehicle enters. It is commonly used for the carpark near home and, separately, the carpark near work. HDB and URA run season parking for many public housing and street-level carparks, while shopping malls, office buildings, and condominiums offer their own private season schemes. Rates depend on the location and on whether the parking is reserved or non-reserved, and some areas split pricing into daytime, night, or full-day bands. Public season parking is applied for and renewed online, and the season label or digital record is tied to a specific vehicle. Because demand in popular areas can exceed supply, some carparks operate waiting lists. Season parking does not guarantee a particular lot in a non-reserved scheme; it grants access, and the driver still finds an available space.

Why it matters in Singapore

In a city where most drivers park in shared public carparks rather than private driveways, season parking is one of the largest recurring costs of ownership after the car itself, loan, road tax, and insurance. Choosing season parking over per-entry charges is usually worthwhile for anyone who parks in the same place daily, and the decision shapes the true monthly cost of running a car. Where a car habitually parks, covered or open-air, also affects how much sun, rain, and bird-dropping exposure the paint takes.

What it means for car owners

Season parking itself is an administrative cost, but where you park night after night quietly decides how fast your paintwork ages. A car kept in an open-air lot bakes in daily sun and takes the full force of rain and acidic bird droppings, which dull the finish and can etch the clear coat. A car under cover ages far more gently. If your season parking is open-air, that is exactly the situation a ceramic coating or regular paint protection is built for, and it is the work Revol Carz does to keep a Singapore car looking sharp despite the climate.
