Swirl marks

Swirl marks are fine, circular scratches in the clear coat caused by improper washing or low-quality drying towels, most visible under direct sunlight.

What it means

Swirl marks are not one big scratch but thousands of tiny ones layered in circular patterns. They are usually inflicted during the wash itself: dragging a contaminated wash mitt across the panel, drying with a rough towel, or running the car through an automatic brush wash all produce them. Once present, they catch direct light and scatter it, which is why a swirled panel looks dull or hazy under sunlight even though it appears clean and shiny under softer light. Swirls live inside the clear coat and can be removed permanently through paint correction, which levels the clear coat slightly to erase the depth of the scratches. They cannot be hidden long-term by waxes or fillers; those products only mask swirls until they wash off.

Why it matters in Singapore

Most Singapore cars develop visible swirl marks within their first 2 to 3 years on the road, often without the owner noticing because they only show under specific lighting. Removing them and then protecting the surface with a coating is the difference between a 5-year-old car that still looks new at noon and one that visibly shows its age.

How Revol Carz handles this

Revol Carz removes swirl marks as part of our paint correction service, either as a standalone grooming session or as prep before a ceramic coating. We work in controlled lighting so we can see swirls disappearing in real time, and we measure clear-coat thickness throughout to stay within safe margins.
