The brief
The A6 came in for its maintenance service, and the multi-point inspection that comes with it turned up a couple of jobs worth doing while it was in: the engine and transmission mounts had sagged, and the spark plugs were due. The owner had them done together with the service, which is the efficient way, one visit, everything sorted. A proper service runs through the whole car: oil and filter, air and cabin filters, fluids, brakes, suspension, electrics, a battery test and a diagnostic scan, plus an eyeball over the belts, hoses and underbody. On this A6 the inspection flagged the drivetrain mounts as worn, which is the vibration and the engine noise you start to notice, and the spark plugs as ready for renewal, which keeps the engine firing cleanly. So it was the service plus those two jobs, done with genuine Audi parts.
The diagnosis
The inspection went through everything. The engine oil and filter were due, the air and cabin filters near the end, a couple of fluids wanting topping, and on the lift the engine and transmission mounts had sunk with cracked rubber while the spark plugs had done their mileage and were ready for renewal. The brakes, belts, hoses and underbody checked out clean, the battery tested fine, and no fault codes were stored. So it was a maintenance service plus a mount set and a spark plug set: the wear items refreshed, the fluids freshened, fresh mounts and plugs, and a clean scan.
The work
The engine oil was drained and refilled with the correct Audi-spec oil and a new oil filter fitted, the air and cabin filters replaced, the fluids topped, and a full diagnostic scan run with no codes left. On the lift the worn engine and transmission mounts were replaced with genuine Audi parts, every fastener torqued to spec and the drivetrain checked sitting square, and a full set of new genuine Audi spark plugs fitted, gapped and torqued. A road test confirmed a clean start, steady running, no vibration, and smooth power, with nothing leaking.
The outcome
A clean bill of health on the A6, fresh oil and filters, fresh fluids, new drivetrain mounts holding the engine and gearbox properly, fresh spark plugs firing cleanly, and a clean diagnostic scan. The car went home serviced and sorted. Doing the mounts and the plugs during the service caught the worn items while the car was already in, so it left smoother, quieter and ready for the next interval, the efficient way to look after a car.
