TFSI patterns we know cold.

01

2.0 TFSI oil consumption

A known weak point on the EA888 and earlier 2.0 TFSI engines. Piston rings and PCV valve are the usual culprits. Often misdiagnosed as a full top-end overhaul when targeted ring or PCV work resolves it.

02

Timing chain tensioner

Rattle on cold start, loose chain warnings. The early-generation tensioner fails on 2.0 TFSI and 3.0 TFSI engines. Replacing it before chain skip prevents catastrophic engine damage.

03

Multitronic and S-Tronic faults

Hesitation, judder from a stop, limp mode. Multitronic CVTs need ATF and clutch pack work; S-Tronic mechatronic units need re-coding. Misdiagnosis often leads to a full gearbox replacement when only the mechatronic needs work.

04

Coil packs and ignition

Misfire warnings, rough idle, cylinder cut-out at speed. Audi coil packs degrade in pairs and quattro packages can mask the failing coil. A proper VAG-spec scan finds which cylinder before parts are thrown at it.

Why fixes don't stick.

Audi faults look similar through a generic scan tool. They aren't. The same warning code can mean three different parts depending on the model and year.

VAG-spec diagnostics, brand-specific tooling, 14 years on Audi. Quote first, work after.

  • VAG-COM / VCDS-grade diagnostics: not a generic OBD-II clone
  • 36-point safety check on every visit
  • Free diagnostic before any work

Diagnose first. Quote next. Repair only after you say go.

Four rules. Same since 2012.

01

VAG-spec diagnostics first

Every job starts with a VAG-COM / VCDS-grade scan. Not a generic OBD-II clone. We read the codes, explain them, then propose the work.

02

Original Audi parts only

OEM parts and Audi-spec engine oils. Over 15 grades of Audi oil stocked. Aftermarket on request only.

03

Written quote before any work

Line-item cost breakdown. The price quoted is the price billed.

04

No fix, no charge

If a replaced part does not solve the issue you came in with, you do not pay for it.

Pattern recognition.

25 years on European cars. 14 on Audi specifically. We've seen most Audi failure modes more than once.

Some symptoms point to the cheap fix. Others point to the expensive one. We tell you which before we quote.

  • Audi A, S, RS, Q, R8 ranges: petrol, diesel, quattro, Multitronic, S-Tronic, DSG
  • Engine work: oil consumption, timing chain, top end, full overhaul
  • Transmission: mechatronic re-coding, multitronic CVT, S-Tronic clutch packs
  • Suspension: air suspension on Q7 / A8, magnetic ride, absorbers
  • Electrical and modules: ECU, comfort control module, BCM coding
Audi being serviced at Revol Carz Garage workshop

Three letters. Three diagnostic playbooks.

An Audi is the sum of its drivetrain. Each platform fails differently and needs a different first move.

Engine
TFSI

Turbocharged direct injection.

EA888 weak points: piston ring oil burn, PCV valve, timing chain tensioner, water pump. Compression and leak-down test before the wallet opens.

2.0 / 2.5 / 3.0 / 4.0 variants
Drivetrain
quattro

Permanent all-wheel drive.

Front and rear differentials, Haldex coupling on transverse, propshaft centre bearing. Failures present as drone, vibration, or torque imbalance, not as warnings.

Longitudinal & transverse
Transmission
S-Tronic

Dual-clutch and Multitronic.

Mechatronic re-coding, clutch pack wear, ATF and filter service. Most "DSG is broken" complaints resolve at module level, not gearbox level.

DQ200, DQ250, DL501, Multitronic CVT

Three quotes that didn't add up.

★★★★★
"Persistent oil leak that two earlier workshops kept patching. Revol traced it correctly the first time and replaced the right gasket. Quote upfront, bill matched. Honest service from a team that knows the car."

"My Q5 was burning oil between services. Another workshop quoted a full engine overhaul. Revol's team did targeted work on the PCV and ring seal. Solved without a major bill. Drives like new."

★★★★★
"Random misfires on cold start. Coil pack faults the previous workshop swapped twice without resolution. Revol identified the actual failing cylinder, replaced two coils, problem gone. Diagnostics done properly."

Common questions.

Every 15,000 km or once a year, whichever comes first.

For older models, every 10,000 km or annually, whichever comes first, will be recommended.

It depends on your specific Audi model, engine type, and driving conditions.

At Revol Carz Garage, we primarily use trusted brands such as Mobil 1 and Castrol, ensuring reliable performance and protection.

As a general guide:

  • Newer Audi models typically use lower viscosity oils such as 0W-20 or 0W-30, which improve fuel efficiency and engine responsiveness
  • Older or higher mileage models may benefit from slightly thicker oils like 0W-40, offering better protection against wear

Most importantly, always follow the manufacturer's approved oil specifications (Audi / VW standards such as VW 504.00 / 507.00) to ensure optimal engine performance and longevity.

If you're unsure, feel free to reach out. Our team can recommend the most suitable engine oil based on your vehicle model and usage.

The early-generation 2.0 TFSI EA888 engine has a known weakness in piston rings and the PCV valve. We diagnose with a compression and leak-down test before recommending ring or PCV work. A targeted fix is far cheaper than a full overhaul.

Approximately every 20,000 km. The instrument cluster alerts when pad sensors detect wear. We measure pad thickness on every visit.

Approximately every 60,000 km. Worn plugs cause misfires, rough idling, and reduced fuel efficiency.

Every 40,000 km or every 2 years, whichever comes first. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time and old fluid reduces braking performance.

Yes. We reset the service indicator via VAG-spec tooling and update the service history record. A full scan is run first to ensure nothing else is hiding behind the light.

No. The VAG-spec diagnostic check is free, before you decide if you want any work done. There is no obligation to proceed after the scan and quote.

You do not pay for it. We continue diagnosing until the actual fault is resolved.

Yes, all repairs come with a minimum of 1-year warranty, giving you peace of mind on the quality and durability of our workmanship.
