Mercedes-Benz C180, scheduled service.

10,000 km service interval on the dot. C180 came in for oil and filter, a full inspection of consumables, and a STAR diagnostic scan. Clean bill of health.

Job done

Servicing Routine Maintenance Mercedes Specialist
Mercedes-Benz C180 on the workshop lift for the recommended 10,000 km service.

The brief

The C180 was on its 10,000 km service interval, brought in on time the way Mercedes' scheduling is set up to reward. The owner wanted the full job: oil and filter, a proper inspection of belts, hoses, fluids and brakes, and a diagnostic scan of the electronics.

A service on a Mercedes is more than an oil change. It's the chance to put the car on the lift, look over everything that wears, change what's due, scan for anything brewing quietly, and reset the service counter so the next interval is timed right. Done on time, it's how a car like this stays trouble-free.

The diagnosis

The STAR scan came back clean, no stored fault codes anywhere. But the inspection turned up a fair bit that was due. The engine air filter and the cabin filter were both ready to change. The front brakes were worn, the discs down to a lip on the edge and the pads near the end, so those needed doing. And while the battery was still cranking the car fine, it was getting on, so it went on the list to replace now rather than be the next surprise.

Brake fluid moisture was edging up but still within spec. Belts, hoses, suspension and underbody all checked out clean.

The work

We drained and refilled the engine oil with the correct Mercedes spec and fitted a new oil filter. The engine air filter and the cabin filter were both replaced. The front brake discs and pads came off and a fresh set went on. And a new Mercedes-spec AGM battery went in, registered on STAR so the charging system manages it on the right profile.

Coolant, brake fluid and washer fluid were topped to their marks, the service indicator was reset through STAR so the next due date is right, and every reading went into the service log.

The outcome

Clean STAR scan, fresh oil and filter, new air and cabin filters, new front brakes, new battery, fluids topped and the service light reset.

The C180 went home good for another 10,000 km, with a service record that lists exactly what was done and a few wear items refreshed before they became complaints. That's what an on-time service is for: catching the brakes and the battery on the workshop floor instead of on the road.

Fresh filters laid out at the service: a new cabin filter and the new engine air filter, with the oil ready behind.
