Headlight restoration
Headlight restoration is the refurbishment of yellowed, hazy, or oxidised plastic headlight lenses through controlled sanding, polishing, and resealing.
What it means
Modern car headlights use polycarbonate plastic lenses with a thin UV-protective coating bonded on top. After three to five years of tropical UV exposure, that coating breaks down. The polycarbonate underneath then yellows, hazes, and develops a chalky surface that scatters light and reduces beam output. Headlight restoration removes the damaged top layer through a sequence of wet sanding (progressively finer grits), polishing the clear plastic back to optical clarity, and applying a fresh UV-protective sealant or clear coat to slow the next round of degradation. Done properly, the result lasts another three to five years. Done badly, the sealant flakes within months and the headlights look worse than before. It is a fraction of the cost of full headlight assembly replacement, which on European cars can run into thousands.
Why it matters in Singapore
Singapore's UV intensity is among the harshest in the world for plastic headlight lenses. Cars parked uncovered in HDB carparks or office lots show visible yellowing within four years. For owners running the original 10-year COE term, headlight restoration once or twice across the life of the car keeps the front of the vehicle looking sharp and maintains safe nighttime visibility, both of which matter for resale.
How Revol Carz handles this
Revol Carz handles headlight restoration as a standalone service or as part of pre-deregistration cosmetic work. We sand back the damaged outer layer with controlled grits, polish to optical clarity, and apply a UV-protective sealant before handover. We quote a flat price upfront based on the lens condition.
