Comprehensive insurance
Comprehensive insurance is the broadest tier of Singapore motor insurance, covering damage to your own vehicle (own-damage) as well as third-party liability.
What it means
Singapore motor insurance comes in three main tiers. Third-party only is the legal minimum and covers damage you cause to other parties (their cars, their injuries) but nothing on your own car. Third-party fire and theft adds cover against fire damage and theft of your own vehicle but still excludes accident damage you are responsible for. Comprehensive is the broadest cover and includes own-damage from accidents, collisions, and weather events on top of all the third-party and fire-and-theft coverage. Comprehensive is the standard tier for most Singapore-driven cars under 10 years old, especially financed cars where the loan typically requires comprehensive cover. Older cars (especially those past PARF age and approaching deregistration) sometimes step down to third-party only, since the cost of comprehensive cover may exceed the residual value of the vehicle. The tier you carry shapes which workshops your insurer will work with and what claim process applies.
Why it matters in Singapore
Singapore comprehensive policies typically come with insurer-authorised workshop panels, which determine where you can have repairs done if you want the insurer to handle the bill directly. Knowing whether your insurer's panel includes a workshop you trust (and whether your policy lets you nominate your own preferred workshop) avoids the frustration of being routed to a workshop you would not have chosen.
How Revol Carz handles this
