NCD (No Claim Discount)

NCD, or No Claim Discount, is the cumulative discount on Singapore motor insurance premiums earned for each consecutive year an owner does not file a claim.

What it means

Singapore motor insurance offers a No Claim Discount that grows with each claim-free year, typically capped at 50 percent after five years. The discount applies to the base premium and can amount to several hundred to several thousand dollars a year depending on the vehicle. When a claim is filed, the NCD is reduced (often by two tiers, sometimes more depending on fault and policy terms), and the higher premium continues for the next several years. That reset is what owners weigh against the cost of the repair. For minor incidents (a parking knock, a small bumper scuff), the cost of the repair is often less than the increased premiums over the next two to three years, which is why many owners choose to pay out-of-pocket rather than claim. For major incidents (collision, severe panel damage), claiming usually wins. Some insurers offer an NCD protector add-on that preserves the discount for one claim per year.

Why it matters in Singapore

Singapore car insurance premiums are already high, and NCD is one of the few levers an owner controls. Knowing the cost of a small repair before deciding whether to claim is the practical question, and it is one of the reasons Revol Carz prices small panel and bumper repairs upfront and clearly.

How Revol Carz handles this

Revol Carz scopes panel and bumper repairs in person or from a clear photo over WhatsApp and quotes a flat price upfront. Owners then have the numbers to decide whether to claim or pay out-of-pocket, with no pressure either way from us.
