Seam sealer
Seam sealer is a flexible sealant applied over panel joints and welded seams to block water, dust, and corrosion and restore a factory appearance after repair.
What it means
Seam sealer is a flexible, paintable compound laid along the joints where two panels meet, the same joints the factory sealed when the car was built. Wherever metal overlaps, the join leaves a tiny gap that would otherwise trap water, hold dust, and let corrosion start out of sight. Seam sealer fills and bridges that gap with a continuous, rubbery bead that flexes with the body instead of cracking. It also has a cosmetic job: it gives the joint the smooth or lightly textured look it had from the factory, so a repaired seam does not stand out from an original one. Sealer comes in different forms, from a brushable paste to a self-levelling liquid to a textured spray, and the repairer picks the form that matches the original finish on that part of the car. It is applied after the metalwork and welding are done but before primer and paint, so the new paint covers it and ties the whole repair together.
Why it matters in Singapore
Singapore's heat and near-constant humidity push hard on any unsealed seam. Water that gets trapped in a bare joint stays wet far longer here than in a dry climate, and that is exactly how hidden rust takes hold under floors, in boot wells, and along door bottoms. When a panel is replaced or a section repaired, leaving the new seams unsealed undoes much of the work, because corrosion will simply restart at the joint. Proper seam sealing also matters for resale and inspection: an exposed, gappy weld line is an obvious sign of a quick repair, while a sealed, factory-look seam reads as a job done properly.
How Revol Carz handles this
Revol Carz seals repaired joints as a standard step in bodywork at our Toh Guan facility, matching the sealer form and texture to the original panel before the area moves to paint. The repair is then primed and refinished with Spies Hecker paint, computer colour matched, and oven-baked cured in our Italian Saima dust-free booth, so the sealed seam is fully protected under the new finish. Owners get WhatsApp updates through the job.
