Water spots
Water spots are ring-shaped or cloudy marks left on paint when hard water dries and leaves behind dissolved minerals, which can etch the clear coat under the sun.
What it means
Water spots form when a droplet of water sits on the paint and evaporates instead of being wiped away. The water itself does no harm, but rain, tap water, and sprinkler water all carry dissolved minerals and other impurities. As the droplet dries, those minerals are left behind as a ring or a cloudy patch on the surface. There are two kinds. Surface water spots are mineral deposits sitting on top of the clear coat, and these wipe off or polish off easily. Etched water spots are more serious. If a droplet dries in strong heat, the minerals can sink into the clear coat and leave a permanent ring-shaped mark. Those need machine polishing to remove. A ceramic coating or sealant makes water bead and run off faster, which reduces spotting, but it does not stop it completely if water is left to bake on the paint.
Why it matters in Singapore
Singapore is a perfect storm for water spots. Sudden downpours soak the car, then strong sun comes out within the hour and bakes the droplets dry before they can be wiped off. Cars parked under building sprinklers or near construction get hit too. The combination of mineral-rich water and intense heat means surface spots can etch into the clear coat fast, so a wet car should not be left to dry in the open.
How Revol Carz handles this
Revol Carz starts by identifying whether the spots are sitting on the surface or etched into the clear coat. Surface deposits are cleared with a proper wash and a decontamination step. Etched spots are corrected by machine polishing until the rings are gone. We can then apply a coating so future water beads and rolls off quickly, giving you a longer safe window before any droplet can dry on.
