S-Tronic
S-Tronic is Audi's brand name for the dual-clutch transmission also sold as DSG in Volkswagen and other VAG vehicles, used across most Audi models.
What it means
S-Tronic and DSG are the same transmission technology: dual-clutch, mechatronic-controlled, pre-selecting the next gear for fast shifts. Audi calls it S-Tronic on most longitudinal-engine cars (where one of the gearbox flavours is the DL501) and on transverse models that share the DQ250/DQ200/DQ500 family with Volkswagen. The driving experience is similar across S-Tronic and DSG: quick, smooth shifts with a clutch-pack and mechatronic combination behind the scenes. Service intervals follow VAG specification, and as with DSG, Singapore conditions usually justify a tighter interval than the manufacturer headline. Mechatronic faults are the highest-cost failure mode, followed by clutch-pack wear (especially under aggressive driving) and fluid degradation. Brand-specific diagnostics (ODIS for VAG) are needed for proper diagnosis and adaptation after any transmission work.
Why it matters in Singapore
Audi S-Tronic models (A4, A5, A6, Q5, Q7, RS variants) are common across the Singapore Audi fleet. Owners often discover S-Tronic and DSG share the same underlying architecture only when comparing service quotes between an Audi-only specialist and a VAG specialist. A workshop that handles both on the same parts and tooling base typically prices more competitively.
How Revol Carz handles this
Revol Carz Garage services S-Tronic on Audi using OEM-spec fluid, the correct procedure for the specific gearbox code, and ODIS-equivalent diagnostics. Mechatronic inspection is recommended at every transmission service visit.
