In an unfortunate event of a traffic accident, some drivers are likely to be in a daze or shock, perhaps unsure of what to do next.

Here are some helpful tips on what you should do.

  1. Try to keep calm.

Take a deep breath and recover your composure.  Keep calm.

Do not move your vehicle from the scene of the accident immediately.

Check if anyone is injured.  If so, render medical aid immediately if you can and call 995/999, giving your location.  Do not move any vehicle or injured person/s without the police’s instructions.

Non-injury accident.

If there is no injury and the accident vehicles are causing obstruction or hazard to other road users, move them to the road shoulder and deploy breakdown signage and/or flashing lights to warn of oncoming traffic.

2.   Take pictures and exchange information

If you have an in-car camera, “lock” the last recording showing how the accident occurred as evidence for your insurance claim.  

Take note and photos of the damages on the vehicles (and car positioning on the road lanes if this gives you the claimed advantage).

Exchange particulars with the other driver/s name/s, driver’s license and/or passport/NRIC, car registration number/s, and insurance company USING your mobile phone camera saves the hassle of writing them on paper.  Note the date and location of the accident.  Do not admit any liability at this point.

3.   Continuing your journey.

After the exchange, you may drive off with due courtesy to inform the other driver/s if your car is not seriously damaged and is still road-worthy.

3.1 Towing (if needed)

However, if your car is damaged and unsafe to drive, you could call our towing service 24hrs hotline at 91828211.

4.   Reporting the accident.

For traffic accidents involving injury, pedestrians, cyclists, public property, or foreign vehicles, you are required to make a police report and file the General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA) Motor Accident Report (MAR) Form within 24 hours.

For non-injury accidents, however, you are NOT required to make a police report but you will still need to file the GIA MAR Form to your insurer within the stipulated time as mentioned in the insurance policy.

For the convenience of our customers, the GIA MAR Form is also available from our workshop.

If you receive any Writ of Summons, Traffic Summons, or any other correspondence from the third party, inform your insurer immediately or direct workshop which is handling your claims providing full details.
